About

The engineer who kept following the data

Tri Nguyen

I trained as a chemical engineer and ended up building AI systems for a living. The throughline was always the data — every job I took had more of it, and better questions to ask of it, until that became the whole job.

Since then I've built at Salesforce, AWS, and now Microsoft. Working across three clouds means my advice isn't tied to any one of them — I start from what the customer actually needs and work backward, which sometimes means talking them out of the thing I could most easily sell.

What I care about most is building things that outlast the project: the patterns, templates, and reference architectures a team can pick up after I've moved on. A demo that wins the room but dies in handover isn't finished work, to me.

Today I'm a Lead Data & AI Architect at Microsoft's ASEAN Innovation Hub, working across seven technology areas for customers in nine countries — from fraud and compliance models to multi-agent systems that change how a team gets its work done.

How I work

01

Deep on the tech, fluent with the business

I can go as deep as the model and the architecture need, then turn around and explain to a CFO why it matters in a sentence. Most of the value is in that translation — connecting what the system does to a decision someone actually has to make.

02

I show, then tell

New tech lands when people can see it run, so I build the demo before I write the deck. A working prototype settles arguments that a slide never will — and it keeps me honest about what's real versus what's a nice idea.

03

Three clouds, no religion

I've built across AWS, Microsoft, and Salesforce, so I don't have a favorite to defend. That makes the recommendation easier to trust: it's based on the customer's constraints, not on the logo on my badge this year.
